Trauma Grand Rounds: Abdominal Compartment Syndrome

Abdominal compartment syndrome is commonly seen in the ICU patients with multiple organ dysfunction. The delay in diagnosis and intervention can be significantly associated with poor prognosis. Critical care providers need to be familiar with signs, diagnosis, and management of abdominal compartment syndrome.

Desired Outcomes:

• To identify the patients with signs of intraabdominal hypertension/abdominal compartment syndrome
• To diagnose intraabdominal hypertension/abdominal compartment syndrome by measuring intraabdominal pressure at bedside
• To develop the management plan for patients with intraabdominal hypertension/abdominal compartment syndrome
