PEDS Grand Rounds: New Pediatric Obesity Guidelines

Pediatric obesity is now epidemic worldwide. A provider will frequently evaluate an obese child no matter what type of practice. While successful treatment remains difficult, an appropriate and sensitive approach is necessary for both child and family. Evaluation for comorbidities of obesity is essential.

Desired Outcomes:

• Understand the remarkable health disparities brought about by the pediatric obesity epidemic;
• Institute appropriate screening tests for the comorbidities of pediatric obesity;
• Invoke the basic approach to motivational interviewing in discussing habits and health with family.
