PEDS Grand Rounds: Approach to the Child with a First Seizure

This session will review current evidence for the evaluation and management children presenting with a first seizure. Included will be cases and tips relevant to the primary care provider, ER physician, and to those triaging specialty referrals. Guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics will be discussed in detail.

Desired Outcomes:

• Distinguish febrile seizure from seizure with fever.
• Determine the most appropriate diagnostic work up after a first seizure.
• Describe fist steps in caring for a child with suspected epilepsy.
