Ovarian cancer is a disease with a poor prognosis and limited options in terms of screening, diagnosis, and treatment. Ovarian cancer is the second most common type of gynecologic malignancy and the most common cause of death from gynecologic cancer. It is the fifth most common cause of cancer deaths in women. In the United States and Canada every year, over 25,000 women are newly diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and 16,000 women die from the disease.
Desired Outcomes:
- Discuss the benefits of B salpingectomy –may prevent cancer
- Identify when salpingectomy should be considered (after completion of childbearing) at the time of hysterectomy, in lieu of tubal ligation, and also at the time of other pelvic surgery.
