ARU Grand Rounds: Dermatology for the Hospital Provider

In a hospital setting, physicians are often faced with dermatology issues and need to identify those that require more intervention. A new study claims that one in four Americans are affected by a skin disease. The prevalence and cost of skin disease in the US are increasing and will continue to do so as the population ages. Physicians need to be knowledgeable about advances in the diagnosis and treatment of common dermatological diseases.

Desired Outcomes:

• Treat common dermatological disorders seen in the hospital setting
• Recognize when to refer the patient to a dermatologist
• Implement a systematic approach to the diagnosis and management of common and uncommon skin diseases.
