Child Abuse
Family physicians or pediatricians are likely to encounter victims of child abuse in their practice, and should be able to recognize its common presentations, as well as know how to evaluate and document these cases. A new study indicates that half of U.S. hospitals do not perform x-rays to look for fractures in children under the age of two who have been diagnosed with child abuse.
Desired Outcomes:
- Recognize unusual presentations of child abuse
- Identify factors leading to missed abusive head trauma
- Know new modalities of diagnosing child abuse
- Understand normal injuries of children
- Know how to order x-rays in abuse situations.
