Trauma Grand Rounds: Emergent Anticoagulant Reversal
March 15, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
FreePresented By: Lawrence Tim Goodnough, MD
Reversal of anticoagulation in patients is a medical emergency, as anticoagulation is associated with hematoma growth, neurologic
deterioration, and increased risk of death and major disability. The management of patients requiring acute reversal of anticoagulants,
including warfarin and the novel oral anticoagulants will be discussed.
Desired Outcomes:
- Understand the mechanism of action for commonly used anticoagulants: Warfarin and the Novel Oral Anticoagulants (NOACs).
- Understand how to manage patients requiring urgent reversal of anticoagulants.
- Incorporate best practices on how to reverse anticoagulants acutely.
