Takeshita\, MD \nOPIOID USE HAS INCREASED NATIONWIDE\, INCLUDING PREGNANT WOMEN AND WOMEN OF REPRODUCTIVE AGE. THE NUMBER OF OPIOID OVERDOSES AND RELATED DEATHS AMONG WOMEN HAS QUADRUPLED IN THE PAST DECADE. RECENT RESEARCH SUGGESTS THAT THE OBSTETRIC POPULATION IS BEING PRESCRIBED AN EXCESS SUPPLY OF OPIOIDS WHICH IS LIKELY FUELING THE OPIOID EPIDEMIC. \nDesired Outcomes: \n\nUnderstand how obstetric related opioid prescriptions affect patient outcomes.\nReview current literature evaluating current opioid prescribing practices.\nDiscuss strategies that may decrease opioid use in the obstetric population.\n\nCME Activity Flyer (PDF)
